March Entertainment Guide

March has arrived and we can look forward to longer days and (hopefully) warmer weather very soon indeed! So what’s going on this month? There’s the unashamedly boozy celebration of everybody’s favourite patron saint of course (March 17th), so there’s sure to be a lot of Awesomeness happening in a pub near you. There’s also a few cinema releases that have caught our eye this month, as well as some CD releases to save your pennies for. Don’t spend all of your cash though as it’s Mothers day on Sunday 15th! Chocolates and flowers and amazing Owl ornaments are fine but what about throwing your dear mum her own tea party! A few sandwiches (crusts cut off of course), cakes and champagne has got to be a winner surely?

St Patrick’s Day – Lets be honest, most people use it as an excuse for a big piss up! Celebrated worldwide, it sees scores of people flock to the pub with the intent of getting very, very drunk. The biggest celebrations will of course be in Ireland itself, but you can always take a merry ride on the train down to London for a pretty good second best as Trafalgar Square is host for a massive parade and festival on Sunday 15th.

Cinema Releases – In cinemas this month is Insurgent, the second installment of the Divergent series which promises more futuristic, dystopian action for the Hunger Games type audience (March 20th); the live action version of Cinderella starring Cate Blanchet and Lily James (27th) and the inevitable cinematic debut of a very famous sponge in The Spongebob Square Pants Movie: Sponge Out Of Water (27th). Our top titles to see though begin with Still Alice which features an OSCAR and BAFTA winning performance for best actress Julianne Moore as she plays a woman struggling with early onset Alzheimers and brutal british crime drama Hyena, which has been dubbed the most “powerful homegrown crime flick since Sexy Beast”(6th). Then there’s the nolstalgic foray into the robo-friend genre of the 80’s which introduces us to ‘Chappie‘; the lovable, visually superb robot from director Neill Blomkamp. Both are out now. Johnny Five is alive!

Music – For fans of The Prodigy, their new album ‘The Day Is My Enemy’ is out on March 30th ( check out the music video to ‘Wild Frontier’ below …creepy and cool at the same time). Madonna is back from her little trip with ‘Rebel Heart’ (9th), Noel Gallagher’s flying high with his album ‘Chasing Yesterday’ (out now) and Bjork (yes, Bjork!) is still going crazy with her new album Vulnicura (16th). Our last highlight for this month is the latest offering from Seasick Steve with his new album ‘Sonic Soul Surfer’; his easy listening, country blues sound is nothing short of pure Awesomeness. Available on March 23rd.
